This has been an incredibly busy but fun final half term for our Year 6 children! Not only have they visited their new schools for transition days, been swimming every Friday morning, learnt all about evolution in science, the UK in geography and how to deal with the changes coming up in PSHE, we have been on many fun days out.

The Year 6 children went to Red Kangaroo trampoline park. We hadthe whole park to ourselves and the children had a fantastic time jumping, sliding and wading through foam pits. We were very tired when we arrived back at school!

In two separate groups, Year 6 were led on a canoeing session by Reading School at Thames Valley Water Centre. Some of the children started the sessions feeling a little nervous, but by the end, all could canoe their boats in pairs up the river. Thank you to Mr Evans and the team from Reading School who showed us what to do and taught us some fun games to play on the river. We had some fantastic weather too; we even had to dunk our heads in the water to cool down!

Throughout the summer term, the children have taken part in different cooking sessions in small groups. They have made some tasty stir fry as well as a delicious red velvet cake! For the ingredients to make the cakes, the whole class went to Tesco. We walked there and back with our shopping bags.

All of the children have contributed to some painting on the walls in the classroom. This will be a lasting memory from Year 6. They worked with Mr Stiff to make the room more colourful and transform a reading corner.

Earlier on in the term, we were visited by PC Martin and his dog Chip. It was amazing to see how well trained Chip was: he could sniff out money from the other side of the playground. We learnt lots about the equipment police carry and got to try some on too!

Check out the Year 6 artwork in Dee Caf! We spent a wonderful afternoon making flatbreads and adding our self portraits to the walls. We printed our sketches onto transfer paper so that they could go onto the tiles. In small groups, Tina also taught us how to make flatbread that we shaped using cutters. Thank you Tina!
