This has been a jam-packed half term for Year 6! In reading, writing and maths we have been preparing for our SATs, which will be shortly after the Easter holidays. I am incredibly proud of all of the Year 6 children for the progress they have made! We have expanded our use of SchoolOnline. Children can now practice maths questions and SPAG questions at home and in school. All of the questions are taken from past papers and give the children a good idea of what their test will be like as well as developing their strategies to answer the different style of questions.

In PHSE, we have discussed SATs and the children’s upcoming transition to secondary school. The children have been able to articulate how they are feeling about these and consider their worries and hopes. We have also looked at how we can prepare for both and use strategies to ensure we can process our emotions. We will continue to discuss transition in the summer term.

This half term, we have been studying history; in particular, World War II and how Britain was rebuilt after. We have used a range of artefacts and documents from the times to discuss how life changed for British people. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing newspaper articles from World War II and government leaflets that were used to introduce the NHS. Year 6 had lots of questions and were able to talk about what life must have been like at the time.

We have also celebrated a range of special days this half term! The girls enjoyed an extra football session delivered by Reading Football Club’s Mr. H. that developed their skills. On the same day, all of the children took part in Team Superschools and met sprinter Ryan Scott. The House Captains did a fantastic job of supporting each class throughout the day. On World Book Day, the children made their own pop-up books and some dressed up as their favourite book characters. For British Science Week, the children used a range of scientific skills to calculate the age of a shark.

Thank you for your ongoing support. It has been great to speak to lots of you before and after school each day. Please feel free to speak to me or you can email [email protected] if you have any questions.
