Spring Term Highlights from Year 6
Back
What a fantastic spring term it has been in Year 6. The children have impressed us all with their enthusiasm, maturity and growing sense of responsibility as they move closer to the end of their primary journey.
In maths, our main focus has been on fractions and decimals. The children have shown real determination in tackling tricky concepts and applying these skills to problem solving. Their progress in arithmetic has been particularly noticeable, with many children showing increased confidence and accuracy.
In writing, we have explored both narrative and diary genres, linked to our class text Letters from the Lighthouse. The children have produced thoughtful, imaginative and emotionally rich pieces of writing that capture the atmosphere of the story beautifully.
In science, we have studied evolution and explored how animals adapt to their environments and how species change over time.
Our work in history has taken us deep into the world of the Maya civilisation where the children learned about achievements, beliefs and culture. In geography, our Blue Planet theme encouraged the children to think carefully about sustainability, climate change and the ways we can protect our planet.
In the creative subjects, the children have enjoyed printing in art, experimenting with techniques and patterns. In DT, they have designed and made hats and produced some wonderfully inventive results.
A real highlight of the term came this week when the children received their Year 6 hoodies. They are very proud of them and are allowed to wear them during Easter School and throughout the summer term. This is a special privilege that marks their role as the oldest children in the school.
The class has also continued to shine in their leadership roles. They have supported PE lessons, worked with younger children and helped in assemblies. Their positivity, responsibility and kindness have made a real difference across the school.
As their teacher, my personal highlight has been seeing the children’s pride grow this term. Their confidence, effort and progress have been outstanding and they should feel incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far.
Here is to an exciting and successful summer term ahead.
