Autumn Term Highlights from Year 6
Back
Since starting Year 6, the children have worked well to develop their attitude towards learning. More recently, we have introduced a Spotify playlist that has a mix of the children’s favourite songs (and some chosen by Mr Church). The children have relished being able to listen to music they enjoy, and they have been motivated to learn when this is on. We have also been discussing what it means to be in Year 6 and be the leaders of the school and becoming the positive role models for other children. We have focused on opportunities the children would like across the school, such as helping in other year groups, working in the office with Mrs Barnett and becoming ‘playground buddies’ and supporting any children who may need some support at break and lunchtimes. It has been a joy to see the children think seriously about their responsibility. I am confident that as we move into the new year, they will rise to the challenge and excel at being their best versions and role models for others across the school.
I have asked the children about their favourite things in Year 6 so far, and this is a snapshot of what they have told me:
“My favourite subject is PE because we’ve been learning how to pass the ball through the cones.”
“I’ve enjoyed reading ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ and practising our writing skills.”
“This year, in Year 6 I’ve enjoyed writing chronological and non- chronological reports.”
“We’ve read ‘The Girl of Ink and Stars’, and we are currently reading ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. In writing we’ve been learning about relative clauses.”
