Autumn Term brought new beginnings for the Reception class as they either started their journey at Ranikhet or became full time at school. They settled well, getting to know their keyworkers, and were excited to start their new Rainbow Challenges with 6 different activities to complete during provision time each week.

They started by getting to each other, their feelings and how we are all unique. The class discussed their families, their houses and what their favourite things to do were. Reception enjoyed getting to know peers with different experiences, cultures and traditions; and have enjoyed being able to learn so much more about our local community and wider communities.

Reception have also learnt about celebrations; from birthdays, to weddings, Christmas and Diwali. The classroom had its own party space in the role play area; we designed our own Mendhi patterns and painted fireworks with straws. The term then finished by having their very first Nativity as a class before welcoming in adults to stay and play in the classroom too.

Starting Reception also brought a new experience of learning sounds in Phonics. Reception class have come so far in such a short time and are now able to start to read and write simple words independently. The class enjoy daily handwriting sessions to practice their letter formation and are growing in confidence each day.

In Maths Reception have become secure in numbers up to 5, including making the numbers with objects, finding up to 5 in the environment and representations of numbers up 5. They have also started to name and describe 2D shapes as well as discussing their position, in addition to the position of objects.

Overall, Autumn has been a very busy adventure for Reception and they cannot wait to learn even more in Spring and into Summer next year!
