We’d like to send a warm welcome to our new and returning children in Nursery who have joined our Ranikhet family. We’ve had an exciting start to the new academic year in Autumn 1. Our theme was “All About Me.” The children explored their own identities, thinking about who they are and what they look like. They began to understand their personal stories and family backgrounds, and they created self‑portraits and family portraits using a range of different art materials.

They also learned about classroom rules and routines, discussing why these are important for keeping everyone safe, comfortable, and happy. We spent time helping them identify their own emotions and practise responding to different feelings in positive ways.

In addition, the children explored colours, sorting, matching and copying simple patterns using a wonderful variety of natural objects—rocks, pinecones, conkers, leaves, twigs, and flowers— and sorted them into different groups. The learned to identify and names numbers 1, 2 and 3.

In Autumn 2, our theme was “Through My Eyes.” The children explored stories and took part in discussions about the similarities and differences between themselves and their peers.

They learned about the many ways they and their classmates celebrate special occasions with their families. This included discovering traditions linked to Diwali, Eid, Bonfire Night, and Christmas.

They also enjoyed getting creative by designing and constructing houses, bridges, and other magnificent inventions using wooden blocks and junk‑modelling materials.

We rounded the term off by the children singing ‘Songs around the Christmas Tree’ and inviting families to our Stay and Play session the last week of term.
