We have all been working hard this half term and have enjoyed learning about lots of new things.

English

In English, we have been learning all about instructions. We explored the features of different instructions and looked closely at our WAGOLL of ‘how to make pancakes’.

We then went on to learn about imperative verbs, prepositions, time adverbials and using these in our writing. Each of us make a toilet roll bird feeder and hung them outside. The birds gobbled up the delicious seeds. We then wrote our own instructions to tell someone else how to make one.

Maths

In Maths, we’ve been covering some quite tricky concepts. We have been learning about multiplication using grouping and arrays. Miss Höke let us use counters to help make arrays and showed us that numbers can be multiplied in any order and you get the same answer. We learnt that dividing can be done by grouping or sharing. This was tricky for us to begin with but now we know to divide any number. To help us with our multiplication and division we practiced counting in our 2s, 5s and 10s. Please keep practicing at home.

Science

This half term in Science our topic has been animals including humans. We have learnt about how some animals give birth to live young and how some lay eggs. We looked at the stages of a human’s life and thought about all the different things we can do at each stage. Did you know that all living things need water, food and oxygen to survive?

This has also linked to our PSHE topic of healthy bodies where we have learnt about what we need to live a healthy lifestyle. We focused on using screen time in a positive way and created some posters to remind us. We also discussed how to keep our teeth clean and the importance of this.

Art

We have had great fun in Art this half term. Miss Payne taught us all about our artist Emma Bridgewater and how she creates pottery. We began our lessons by learning how clay is made and then feeling clay and using adjectives to describe it. Next, we learnt about how Emma Bridgewater uses a repeated pattern and sponges to decorate her pottery. We designed own using simple shapes. Miss Payne then used her expertise to teach us how to make a pinch pot with plasticine to practice. We finally used the clay to make our own pots and decorated them with paint.

Design and Technology

How many different towers can you name? We have been looking at tower structures from around the world and those that are local to us. We have explored what they are made from and how they have been put together. We have worked in groups to design and make our own towers and Miss Payne and Mrs B tested them to see how strong they were by holding pears at the top.
