This half term has been very busy with lots of engaging activities and new learning. We started the term with a visit from Charlotte from Ufton Court and lots of fun outdoor team building activities took place in preparation for our residential after half-term. I was extremely proud of how the children behaved and worked well together.

In Mathematics, we have been working extremely hard on understanding the place value and worth of bigger numbers all the way up to one million! Working out how we can partition these numbers into different part-part whole models and use concrete apparatus to represent the numbers. Also, I am extremely impressed with everyone’s times table knowledge and using this to help answer questions related to problems.

In English, we learnt about David Walliams which our class is named after. It was very interesting, we also drew half of him to match up with the other half, lots of careful observations needed for this. From the information gathered we planned an autobiography about his life so far using subheadings, photos and making sure it was in chronological order. The final presentations were really pleasing.

In Geography, we travelled to South America and flew into the capital Brazillia, from there we named all the countries and capital cities in South America. We looked at each countries climate and decided where we would prefer to live. It was amazing how the climate changed from country to country. We also learnt to find places using longitude and latitude coordinates, which needed us to understand the points on a compass!

In Science, we have loved learning about Earth and Space this half-term and creating moving models of the Earth, Sun, and Moon. We also found out about the planets, seasons, and day and night. Phases of the moon really intrigued the class.

We all loved taking part in the colour run!

Overall I have been extremely proud of how the new Year 5s have taken to their learning and producing great pieces of work.
