Year 3 have had an amazing start to the year. They have all taken on the challenges of the new academic year and worked so hard over the past 7 weeks. Well done Year 3 and keep it up!

In our core subjects, it has been great to see everyone so engaged, challenging themselves every day. In writing, they have researched Roald Dahl and learnt about his incredible life, they then wrote biographies documenting everything they know about him. And in maths, they have been focusing on place value and mental strategies.

In science, the children have been learning about light. They have concentrated on sources of light, the importance of light to enable us to see and in the absence of light, shadows. They took advantage of the last of the summer sun and had fun with making shadows with their bodies on the playground. They also used torches and created a shadow puppet show for the rest of the class. They have all thoroughly enjoyed this topic.

In art, our focus artist this term was Pablo Picasso. After researching Picasso’s work with a special focus on cubism and collage, the children designed and then created their own pieces of cubism art. They then experimented with different textures and layering to add more interest to their work.

We have also enjoyed a couple of special days this half term. The children learnt about gorillas on World Animal Day and took part in lots of activities on World Mental Health Day. We also helped to raise money for Jeans for Genes. Thank you!

Thank you to all Year 3 families for your continued support this year.
