Highlights from Year 5
Back
As we come to the end of a busy and exciting summer term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful learning and experiences Year 5 have enjoyed. One of the highlights has been our class reading of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The children have been captivated by the magical world of Hogwarts and have shown great enthusiasm during our reading sessions. It has sparked some brilliant discussions and inspired imaginative writing.
In English, we’ve been developing our writing skills by using relative clauses to add detail, prepositional phrases of time to structure our ideas, and exploring how nouns can be used to modify other nouns. The children have worked hard to apply these techniques in their own writing, producing some fantastic pieces. In maths, we’ve tackled geometry, multiplication, division, and coordinates, with pupils showing great perseverance and progress across all areas.
Our PE lessons have been full of energy and excitement, especially as we prepared for and took part in our Sports Day. Athletics has been a big focus this term, and it was wonderful to see the children supporting one another and giving their best efforts. We also enjoyed a lovely class trip to Prospect Park, where we had the chance to explore, play, and enjoy some well-earned time outdoors together.
Across the wider curriculum, we’ve had a rich and varied term. In art, we studied the work of famous illustrators, which linked beautifully with our English work. In DT, the children designed their own Mars rovers, thinking carefully about the challenges of space exploration. In geography, we explored the journey of food from farm to fork, and in history, we delved into the Industrial Revolution, learning how it shaped the world we live in today. It’s been a term full of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer break!
Warm regards,
Mr. Neal and Mrs. Davies
