Writing and Phonics

In Writing, we have finished reading ‘Trouble with Trolls’ and we are relieved to see the Trolls off as they have made a terrible mess in our class as well as getting up to mischief by misplacing our books and hiding our stationery. Year 1 have worked incredibly hard achieving excellent results in their Phonics and are more confident using their Phonics knowledge to become more independent writers. I am so proud of you all. I am excited to see how your writing flourishes in Year 2.

Maths

We have been focusing on time and money this term. Recognising and knowing the value of different denominations of coins and notes. We enjoyed counting money and pretending to buy items in class. In our time unit, we had to sequence events in chronological order using language (for example, before and after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening). We used our school timetable to place events in the right order.

Science

In Science, we explored many different animals and their habitats. We were able to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We also worked scientifically by gathering and recording data to help in answering questions about different animals and their diets. We are very excited for our school trip to Marwell Zoo to explore all the animals up close and compare our findings from what we have learned about them already. Please enjoy some photos that we took of our day at the zoo.

Art

Our focus artist was William De Morgan this term, looking at tile designs and exploring how we can incorporate our mark making and manipulation skills to create our very own tiles and designs. We used clay and tools to create some very interesting and unique tiles. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring this medium of art. Have a look.

Message from Mrs Stark

It has been an absolute pleasure to teach Year 1 this year. I have witnessed impressive strengths and commitment to learning at such a fundamental stage. I have recognised, resilience, good and open communication and a big love for learning. This year has fostered resilience and overall good results in each of their learning journeys. To my Year 1 parents, thank you, for the daily check ins, conversations and positive starts to the day. Thank you for your continuous support you have given at home this year. I am looking forward welcoming you back in September with warm greetings at the door in the mornings.

Have a wonderful Summer break and enjoy the sunshine.
