Topics

In Summer 1 our topic was “Down at the bottom of the Garden”. In this term we learnt all about growing plants, fruits and vegetables and all about animals. This term we also had our own class worm a wormery. This term it was also finally time for our tadpoles to be released into the pond as they turned into froglets and now frogs. We still enjoy visiting them each week to see how they are progressing and enjoying the school pond.

“Under the Sea” was then the topic for Summer 2, where we learnt about beaches, under the sea animals and pirates, This term the class have really shown how far they have come the past year and how independent they now are. They have enjoyed constructing pirate ships together, creating under the sea coral reefs and mixing paint to create waves just to name a few activities.

Phonics

In Phonics they are now confidently not only reading longer words but simple sentences and enjoying reading in small groups. They are also starting to write their own sentences, thought bubbles and so much more. It is amazing to think that at the start of the year they did not know how to read or write and where we are now!

Maths

In Maths a highlight has been learning to double. They particularly enjoyed learning a doubling song. They have also started to share and separate groups between others and learnt the importance of being fair. We have also started to look at numbers beyond 20 and seeing patterns of number up to 20, as well as looking at number bonds and problem solving.

Message from Miss Cummins

The children have now come to the end of their time in Reception and EYFS at Ranikhet Academy but cannot wait to start Year 1 in September. They thoroughly enjoyed their transition day looking at the text “The Cautious Caterpillar” and are excited to continue rainbow challenges into their new classroom. It has been a joy to have this class as my first year group at Ranikhet Academy and I wish the Reception class all the best in their years to come at school and cannot wait to pop in and see what they get up to and how much they have grown. Have a lovely Summer Reception.
