Our Summer topics were “Down at the Bottom of the Garden" and “Under the Sea”. The children learnt about the natural world around them through observations of animals and plants. They learnt how to pot a seed and that seeds need sun, light and water to grow into a plant. They learnt about farms and what kind of animals live on a farm. Through their books, they learnt about the seaside by studying various sea creatures. They learnt about different sea creatures that inhabit the sea; how water varies in temperature (some being hot and some being cold); and how the Earth is divided into sea and land. They learnt how to stay safe near the sea

To expand their knowledge of creatures and their environments, while embracing their creativity in expressive art, the children created their own creatures and used different materials to create these environments. They mixed colours to create new or different shades of a colour.

In role-play, we set up an ice-cream parlour which allowed the children to pretend to make ice cream with various flavours and toppings of their choice. They implemented their numeracy skills by counting the number of scoops they served in each of the cones, and hosted birthday parties complete with party hats and birthday cards. They further

In Maths, improved their numeracy skills by measuring the capacity of liquids, counting numbers, and matching numbers to their relevant quantities (of objects). They learnt how to measure length using different objects and methods. They used measuring instruments such as rulers, wooden blocks, and cubes. The learnt about patterns, how to continue and create their own AB patterns using manmade and natural resources.

In PSHE, the children learnt about how to be good friends by learning about kind actions such as sharing and giving hugs when they are sad. Towards the end of the summer term, we talked about moving up to Reception and how they were feeling about it.
