May and June have been very important months for the Year 6 children. At the start of May, they completed their SATs. We were all so incredibly proud of how the children completed them – they were truly their best versions. Since completing SATs, we have been focusing on writing. The children have written for a range of purposes and audiences fantastically. Their writing certainly made me laugh!

In History, we finished our unit ‘Rebuilding Britain’ by designing our own towns. We learnt about how different factors influenced political and economic decisions once World War II was over and that many towns needed to be rebuilt because they were destroyed during the Blitz. In science, we have started our final unit – electricty. We have made some circuits and investigated the differences between parallel and series circuits to deduce when they might be useful.

We were joined by Reading’s PSCOs to discuss knife safety. It was a very interesting session. First, we designed a character and the PSCOs told us a story where our character had some very important decisions to make. We learnt about what the law says about carrying knives.

We have started Diversity week! Year 6 are studying Peru. We have looked at the culture, artwork and language and we are ready to show our knowledge to our parents. We have also had some incredible experiences this half term (and we have many more to come!). We have enjoyed an exciting canoe session with the instructors from Reading School and we have explored our local area in Lousehill Copse.

Finally, we have been very busy rehearsing for The Lion King – we can not wait to show you in a few weeks!
