May and June have flown by, and it is nearly the end of the year! It’s been a busy few weeks as so much has been taught in a short time span due to all the bank holidays and King Charles’ Coronation. But the children enjoyed the activities carried out covering a range of subjects and topics.

In English, we wrote a narrative story based on the theme ‘From Rags to Riches’, using the Cinderella story as a prompt. The children acted out some of the scenes and characters, as well as looking at speech using Karate punctuation! For World Ocean Day, the children researched pollution and what we could do about it. From this we wrote a persuasive letter to the local authority explaining our feelings on the subject. The children produced some excellent letters and narrative stories.

In Science, we were studying forces and how these affect objects; some to slow down, some to speed up. Through dropping paper, we were able to state that they both land on the floor at the same time! Our investigation was testing friction. With a toy car and different types of surfaces we measured the distance the car had travelled. We also learnt about levers, pulleys, and gears which we found were used a lot in machinery, especially windmills to make flour!

In Geography, we were studying rivers and used atlases to label all the rivers in the UK. We also acted as raindrops and in groups created the journey of a raindrop on its way to the ocean, using all the correct geographical terms. From this the children made collages with tissue paper demonstrating their understanding of rivers. We also learnt about the River Thames and how important it is. The children loved the creativeness of this topic.

In Spanish, we were learning to become weather people by learning the Spanish vocabulary for different weather types and where this could be in Spain. It was fun learning about the weather and some of us could become weather forecaster!
