Ranikhet Academy currently has a vacancy for 2 governors to join the school’s local governing body and we would love for you to join us!

Who are we looking for?

We’re building a team of governors who possess a diverse range of skills, experiences, qualifications, characteristics and perspectives, and who come from different backgrounds and settings.

We welcome applications from everyone and see the value of the different experiences and skills each applicant will bring to the table; however, if you possess skills and experience in the following areas, we’d particularly love to hear from you:

  • Human resources
  • Risk management
  • Finance
  • Education

A diverse governing board will help children from all backgrounds to succeed and thrive – it allows us to create a culture of inclusion, challenge barriers, biases and stereotypes, and provide a wide range of role models for our pupils. We encourage all members of the local community, regardless of age, experience and background, to apply for the role.

Why become a governor?

Governance can be challenging at times, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges! By becoming a governor, you can influence decisions which have a direct impact on pupils’ education. You can be the difference between pupils going to school because they have to and going to school because they love learning!

We want to ensure our pupils play a role in the local community and your participation could help with this! We want pupils to understand the importance of their community, and find ways for them to be active members – improving their lives and the area they live in. Your participation will bring us fresh ideas and we are excited to put these into action!

By volunteering as a school governor, you can make a real difference to the lives of local children and ensure every child receives the education they deserve. Your voice can influence important decisions for the school, such as how funding is spent, and affect how the school is run. You will also make links across the community by working closely with fellow stakeholders, parents and staff and, as part of the REAch2 Multi-Academy Trust, other REAch2 schools locally.

Dedicating your time

We try to keep meetings to a minimum and make sure every minute spent as a governor is worthwhile. Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to come in every week – we hold just 6 governing body meetings a year on average. Meetings are held at the school or virtually. Sometimes impromptu meetings may be necessary but only in exceptional circumstances and we will try to give you as much notice as possible.

Settling into your new role

Don’t worry if you have no experience of being a governor, or being in a similar role – all of our governors are given an induction by a current governor which includes interactive training. You will receive copies of all the important school policies, a tour of the school, and meet your fellow governors, the headteacher and the school’s senior leadership team – you will also get the opportunity to meet some of the pupils.

New governors receive access to a suite of training and development opportunities provided by the REAch2 Central Governance Team and support from a buddy governor locally.

What’s next?

Are you ready to make a real difference in the community and improve the lives of local children? Well, you’re only an email away from getting started!

If you’re interested in becoming a governor, or if you’d like to know more about what governance involves, simply contact our Headteacher via email [email protected]. Please note, by registering your interest in becoming a governor you are not guaranteed a place on the board – if there are more nominations than vacancies, places will be allocated via election.
