What a magical and exciting term we have had! It has been filled with glitter, glue and singing.

Christmas Production

This half term the children in Key Stage 1 all took part in our Christmas Show ‘A Little Bird Told Me’. The effort that the children put into learning their lines was phenomenal and the support we received from our families to help with costumes was amazing. Every single child sang their hearts out and left some of our audience with tears in their eyes. Well done KS1 for another fantastic show!

Magic Breakfast

Year 1 and 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from magic breakfast this half term. We were able to choose our breakfast and ate it together at the tables. Santa sent some helpers from Quakers and Magic breakfast to bring us some early Christmas gifts. We are so lucky. We were given a giant Snakes and Ladders, Uno, Pop-Up Pirate and lots more. The best part of the morning was playing these games with our visitors. Thank you!

English

We have been focusing on writing diaries this half term. We have linked this to our history topic, The Great Fire of London, where we learnt about Samuel Pepys and how he wrote a diary in 1666. We travelled back in time and imagined what it would have been like as a child during this time. The children thought about what they would be able to see, hear and what emotions they would feel. We learnt the skills of writing in the first person and in the past tense.

Maths

Year 2 have been learning about adding and subtracting over this half term. We have used our base 10 to support adding and taking away 10. A big focus has been to spot and use our number bonds to 10 to help us spot patterns and solve more complex number sentences. For example, we know that 6 + 1 = 7 so 16 + 1 = 17.

Science

We have continued our topic of living things and their habitats. We have learnt about food chains and the difference between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. Did you know most humans are omnivores because we eat plants and meat? During our afternoon sessions we used different resources to work together and create posters of different habitats.

History

We have really enjoyed learning all about The Great Fire of London. Firstly, we learned about what a century was and looked at what life was like in the 17th century and how it was different to our lives today. It was very interesting finding out about how the fire started and why it spread so quickly from building to building. Finally, we thought about our building and fire brigade today and how technology has developed to ensure a disaster like that doesn’t happen again.

Message from Miss Hoke

It has been a busy and tiring half term for all of us. The Year 2 children have worked incredibly hard especially when things haven't always gone to plan. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a very Merry Christmas. Please use the Christmas break to rest, relax and enjoy time with your families and friends. We will see you again in 2023 for a brand-new term!
