We are learning about capacity and volume!

We found the numbers on the side to measure... we could find the numbers... 100... 150... 200... 250.... 300...! We marked it with a pen so we could see our measurement better. We knew the higher the number the more water we would have to pour. Our partner helped us by telling us to stop pouring. We are super mathematicians!

How many metres?

We were really good at estimating by using our maths vocabulary to help us ... more than... less than... 

We are using numicon to solve our maths problems. These are plastic pieces that give your child a feel for the value of number. Learn the value of the pieces.

By the end of Y1 your child needs to recognise the

8 coins and £5 £10 £20 notes.

So we are also learning about money.

Things to do together...

1. When you are shopping tell your child to read some of the prices. Try to find the cheapest... the most expensive... have a look at the receipt when you get home! Help them understand one pound is worth more than one penny.

2. Empty out your purse (if you still have actual money in it!) and let your child sort the coins out.

3. Get them to count in 2's... 5's and 10's...
